2025 Citi Open: Players to Watch, Prize money and points for WTA and ATP
The Citi Open kicks off tomorrow and marks the return of Venus Williams.
The Citi Open returns to Washington, D.C. as the first post-Wimbledon hard-court tournament featuring both the ATP and WTA Tours.
Qualifying rounds start tomorrow. The 500-level event is a best-of-three sets format for men and women, but men will earn more than twice the prize money of the women. Sigh.
This tournament marks the highly anticipated return of Venus Williams, who will compete for the first time in 16 months; her last match was at the 2024 Miami Open.
Paula Badosa, the defending champion, withdrew due to a back injury.
Notable: The women’s field is smaller, so you can catch some solid players in the qualifying rounds. Taylor Townsend, Caroline Dolehide, and Cristina Bucșa are in the qualies. Busca reached the third round at Wimbledon.
Andrew Fenty, 25, son of former DC Mayor Adrian Fenty, received a wildcard into the qualifiers. (TMZ moment: Adrian Fenty was in a long-term relationship with Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Steve Jobs.)
Citi Open Schedule
Qualifying: Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20
Main Draw: Monday, July 21 -Saturday, July 26
Singles Finals: Sunday, July 27
